This year the Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday and there are plenty of fun things to do this year in Denver. Get into the patriotic spirit at a parade, watch a Colorado Rapids or Rockies game, and top off the holiday watching one of Denver's spectacular fireworks displays.
The month of July offers two award-winning Broadway shows. The first is The Book of Mormon (6/13-7/7) and the second is Les Miserables (7/25-8/5).
The Book of Mormon is a funny musical written by the creators behind South Park. It's the story of two young missionaries in Uganda. They stumble upon some interesting adventures as they spend their time in Africa spreading their religion. All shows are at The Ellie.
The second Broadway show starts toward the end of July. Les Miserables is one of the most popular musicals that tells a story of heartbreak and triumph. It's the story of a prisoner that is freed and then breaks his parole for a better life. He is ruthlessly hunted down by the policeman that set him free. He agrees to help a young factory worker by saving and taking care of her young daughter and that decision will change his life forever. All shows are at the Buell.
If you are looking for a variety of music during the month of July, we've got you covered. There are many great venues in Denver including The Pepsi Center, Fiddler's Green, The Denver Botanic Gardens and the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

One of my favorite Denver events in July is Colorado Rockies baseball. They take on the San Francisco Giants, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Seattle Mariners, the Oakland A's, and the Houston Astros this month. In total, they will play 14 home games this month at Coors Field in the Lower Downtown District (LoDo).
The Colorado Rapids take on the Seattle Sounders FC and the Houston Dynamo. Both games are at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.
The Denver Outlaws also have two home games this month. They take on Dallas and Boston at Mile High Stadium. Both are some of the most popular family-friendly Denver events in July.
Sample a variety of local wine at this year's Mile High Wine Festival. In addition to wines, this event will also feature food from several local vendors. The event will also feature several local bands. It runs from 3pm to 8pm and is at the Shops at Northfield in Stapleton.
The Colorado Symphony has an amazing line-up of performances this month. Some of their top Denver events in July include their Movie at the Symphony performances. This month, the symphony will perform all songs from both Jaws and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as you watch the film on the big screen. They will also perform with two well known musicians: Sarah McLachlan and Seal.

Described as "the craziest county fair in America," the Denver County Fair mixes traditional county fair with Denver's urban flair. This is one of the Denver events in July at the National Western Complex that showcases the city's creativity through attractions such as zombie and drag queen beauty pageants, unicorn rides, a flea circus, and magic shows.
If you're feeling competitive, enter one of the dozens of blue-ribbon competitions including best homemade robot, best molded gelatin dessert, grumpiest cat, bug eating, speed texting, and Peeps dioramas. Calling all beer lovers! Make sure to spend some time in the Rino District this July. It's the heart of our local brewery scene and is home to more than a dozen local breweries.
One of the best times to visit is during their First Friday event. The event runs from 6pm to 9pm on the first Friday of the month (7/6) and features live music, art openings, and other special activities you can enjoy as you sample our amazing craft beers.
You can also head out on your own or join a guided tour. On these tours, you will sample brews in the district as you learn the history of this up and coming area. My favorite is the 3-hour tour that includes three 45-minute stops at local breweries. You also get to sample a beer at each location.
This tour runs three times a day, so you can select the time that is right for you. Tour times are at 10:30am, 2pm, and 6pm.
Scratch your funny bone at one of Denver's great comedy clubs. Venues such as Voodoo Comedy Playhouse, Comedy Works, Denver Improv, and Backstage at Beryl's host both talented local and national acts most nights of the week.
Britian's top illusionists take the stage this month at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. These Denver events in July are sure to delight as these world class magicians perform mind readings and close up magic tricks. You will also love their larger scale illusions such as disappearances, teleportation and more. Shows start at 7:30pm each night with a special matinee performance on Saturday at 2pm.

The Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden is where you will find this year's Rocky Mountain Rodeo. Some of the Denver events in July at this rodeo include Bull Riding, Goat Dressing, Wild Drag Racing, Steer Riding, and more. The event starts on Saturday, July 7 and runs from 10am to 5pm. On Sunday, the events run from 10am to 5pm with the ceremony at 8pm. It's another one of the great family-friendly Denver events in July.

One of the best places to catch an outdoor film is at the gorgeous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison. This month, they will show two films: The Big Lebowski (7/9) and Happy Gilmore (7/23).
Doors open at 6:30pm. Local bands will perform live before each film starting at 7pm. The film will begin at dusk.
Close out the month of July with Yoga on the Rocks. This is one of several Denver events in July at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison. All you need to bring along is some water to stay hydrated and your yoga mat.
The yoga session will run from 7am to 8am and this sessions teachers are Tunde Borrego + Raj Seymour. Make sure to arrive a little early to grab your spot.
Larimer Square will be transformed on July 14 into a pop-up food and drink festival. This event will feature locally crafted beers and spirits. You will also find a variety of cuisines from top local chefs all around Denver and Colorado. It's free to enter, but you must pay to sample each goody. The event will run from 10am to 9pm.
For those looking to explore the area, two of the best Denver events in July lie just outside the city in Boulder and Golden.
July 21 and 22: Pearl Street Arts Fest features sculptures, oil paintings, and more along downtown Boulder's Pearl Street Mall.
July 26 - 29: Buffalo Bill Days in Golden features a parade, car show, golf tournament, music, and Cody's Wild West show.
