The Spread the Word Music Festival is heading into its seventh year this Mother's Day Weekend in Denver. This festival celebrates local Colorado artists and gives a platform for up-and-coming performers.
The three day festival offers music of all types including jazz, rock, bluegrass, electronic, and everything in between. The event is at the Denver Coliseum located at 4600 Humboldt Street in Denver.
The event starts on Friday, the 17th in the evening and runs all day on Saturday, the 18th, and Sunday the 19th for Mother's Day.

The plot of this famous opera is based around Rome's diva, Floria Tosca, her lover Mario Cavaradossi who is a painter, and the corrupt chief of police, Baron Scarpia and is set in Rome's 1800, the city is threatened by an invasion by Napoleon's army.
Baron Scarpia is in love with the beautiful Floria Tosca, and thinks that Mario has helped a political prisoner so he devises a plot to manipulate both of them. Hi plan is to make Floria fall in love with him while implicating Mario. When Mario is captured, Scarpia gives Floria a terrible choice where she either has to be with the Baron or condemn her true love, Mario, to death. If you want to give your mom an even more in depth experience then you'll want to take her to the free pre-performance discussion. These talks start 1 hour before the show and are led by opera historian Betsy Schwarm. The talks are given on both Friday and Sunday.
There is a show on Friday night starting at 7:30 pm and the Mother's Day show is at 2 pm on Sunday. Both shows are at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Tosca is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes and includes 2 20-minutes intermissions. The performance is performed in Italian with English and Spanish subtitles at each seat.
Head over to the Denver Botanic Gardens on Mother's Day to see some of the gorgeous plants, trees, and other gorgeous flowers throughout the York Street gardens. This park includes spaces like the Gardens of the West with its Ornamental Grasses Garden, Dryland Mesa, and the Sacred Earth garden.
Some of the other areas include the Internationally Inspired Garden with Bill Hakosawa's Bonsai Pavilion, the South Africa Plaza, the Rock Alpine Garden, and so much more.
There are too many other garden areas to mention, so take your mom, wander around them, and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness during Mother's Day in Denver. The garden is also having a special Spring Plant Sale on Thursday the 7th and Friday the 8th.
The gardens will be open for Mother's Day in Denver from 9 am to 8 pm, so you will have plenty of time to check out all the beauty and nature there all day.
If you mom loves pottery, then head over to the annual Denver Potter's Association Spring Show and Sale. This year's event runs from May 7th to the 10th at the Sixth Avenue United Church (3250 E. Sixth Avenue).
During the event, you will get the chance to check out pieces from several local artists. They will showcase their ceramic works as well as jewelry, wood pieces, and glass. This event is free and runs from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday.
This event runs all weekend long, starting on Thursday and ending on Sunday, so you will have numerous chances to take your mom here.
If your mom is anything like my mom, then she'll enjoy spending some time shopping on Mother's Day in Denver.

Take a stroll under the canopy lights in Larimer Square, Denver's first historic district, where you'll find home furnishings, beauty products, boutiques, and art galleries.
Treat your mom to some bubbly at Corridor 44, Denver's only champagne bar, or raise a glass to her at Cru, a wine bar featuring more than 50 selections. Entertainment options include Comedy Works and piano bar Ocean Prime.

There's more than just shopping, too. Hear some live music at Jazz @ Jack's and the Hard Rock Cafe or take mom bowling at Lucky Strike Lanes — be nice and let her win a game! They also allow 4 hours free parking so you and mom can take your time wandering around and you can buy her a nice gift without rushing it.

If your mom is thrifty, head to Colorado Mills, an indoor outlet mall about seven miles west of downtown Denver. More than 200 stores include Coach, Eddie Bauer Outlet, Michael Kors, J. Crew Factory, and Neiman Marcus Last Call. This is the perfect location to spend some time buying mom her favorites during this Mother's Day in Denver.
With all the bargains you find, you'll have enough leftover to treat mom to a chai at Kataluma Chai, featuring hundreds of varieties, or one of the 130 specialty brews at Yard House.
