Memorial Day Weekend in Denver 2018

Memorial Day Weekend in Denver includes several ceremonies, a parade, and other things to do. You can also catch a Rockies game, see a show at the theater, or enjoy a concert.

Other fun events include opening day at WaterWorks, fireworks at Elitch Gardens, and the Denver Day of Rock festival.

Memorial Day Weekend Ceremonies

The biggest Memorial Day ceremony this weekend is the Veterans Memorial Day Tribute Ceremony at the POF Hall at 1340 Sherman St just south of the Colorado State Capitol Building. The event honors Colorado's fallen soldiers with a parade and ceremony. It's on the Saturday before the holiday and starts at 10am.

Another annual ceremony is at the Fort Logan National Cemetery at 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue. The event features guest speakers and ends with a 21-gun salute. All activities are near the lake and start at around 11am on Monday.

Theater Performances

Catch performances of Human Error and The Who's Tommy this Memorial Day Weekend in Denver. 

Human Error is the story of two couples faced with a mix-up by their fertility doctor. This hilarious show follows what happens as they learn about each others culture, clashing values, and other very different views on life. There are three shows this weekend. Two are on Saturday and one on Sunday. All are at the Garner Galleria Theatre.

The Who's Tommy is the story of a young man that retreats from the world after an unfortunate accident. He then discovers his talent to win at Pinball, which turns him into a success. This musical drama is on stage twice on Saturday and once on Sunday. All shows are at the Stage Theater.

Colorado Rockies Baseball Games

5/25 - 5/28
Coors Field

Spend Memorial Day weekend in Denver at the ballpark and cheer on the Rockies! The team faces the Cincinnati Reds on May 25 - 27.

Then on May 28, they start a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants. Grab a hot dog, a cold drink, and enjoy a game at Coors Field this holiday weekend!

Weekend Concerts

This Memorial Day Weekend in Denver you will find several great concerts. The biggest show this weekend is Taylor Swift at Mile High Stadium on Friday at 7pm. Another big show is James Taylor and His All Star Band at Fiddler's Green on Sunday. 

Red Rocks also has with one performance each day.

16th Street Mall

This one-day music festival benefiting children's nonprofit Amp the Cause features five stages of local and national musicians. All performances are downtown on the 16th Street Mall. Admission is free. Vendors and food trucks will be onsite.

Bill Maher at the Buell Theatre

Spend the night with comedian and political commentator Bill Maher. He will take the stage at 8pm and discuss his views on what is happening in our world with a focus on politics. It will be a night full of fun and comedy at the Buell Theatre in downtown Denver. 

Colorado Symphony

5/25-5/27

The Colorado Symphony performs Friday, Saturday and Sunday night during Memorial Day Weekend in Denver. This weekend's performance is Two Titans: Bernstein & Mahler.

It's a special event to celebrate what would  have been the 100 birthday of Leonard Bernstein. The show will include the following pieces.

Fireworks at elitch Gardens

5/27

Spend the day at Elitch Gardens and then watch the fireworks display after closing. Every Memorial Day Weekend in Denver, Elitch Gardens offers a free fireworks show over their park. You can watch from the parking lot, near the Pepsi Center or anywhere near the park in the downtown area.

Water World: Opening Day

Dig out your swimsuit and break out the sunscreen, because Water World opens Memorial Day weekend! This 64-acre family water park features about 50 attractions, including the famed Screamin' Mimi, a ride that has speeds of up to 30 miles an hour.

If that’s not your speed, check out the leisurely Lazy River. There are also picnic areas, food stands, and a gift shop.

Rocky Mountain Zip Line Tours

A zip-line adventure lets you see the Rockies in a whole new way! All weekend long, you have the chance to glide along some of Colorado's longest lines while taking in beautiful mountain scenery. Some moderate hiking is required.

Colorado Rapids Soccer

Dick's Sporting Goods Park

Get in on the excitement of world-class soccer when the Colorado Rapids take on the Portland Timbers. This 7pm game is at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

BolderBOULDER

Monday, 5/28
30th & Walnut to Folsom Field

One of the largest and most popular road races in the US is in BolderBoulder on Memorial Day. With more than 50,000 runners every year, the BolderBOULDER's 100 different waves of athletes start at 6:50am on Monday morning.

The International Pro Race starts at 11:15am. These runners race though the course with the first participants finishing around 11:45am.

Make sure to stick around Folsom Field for the Memorial Day Tribute. It's one of the largest in the US with more than 70,000 spectators.
