Cinco de Mayo

Location: Civic Center Park

Cinco de Mayo is a day of celebration for Latino cultures. It's a day that represents freedom and a time to celebrate their traditions. This is one of the festivals in Denver in May that started as a street fair in 1988.

Today, thousands come out to celebrate in Civic Center Park. This event features live music, food trucks, beverages, and more than 300 vendors. It's free to enter and enjoy the entertainment. 

There is also a parade on Saturday morning from 11am to 12pm.

Colorado Chocolate

Colorado Chocolate Festival

Location: Denver Merchandise Mart

Spoil yourself at this year's Colorado Chocolate Festival. This two-day event features nearly 100 booths of chocolate and other tasty treats.

Select from gourmet chocolates, cakes, cookies, fudge, toffee, coffee and so much more. Buy some for your self or pick up a gift for your mom for Mother's Day. 

Prizes will be awarded to the top pick in each class. Admission starts at $5 per person and can be picked up at the door.

Cotopaxi Questival

Location: Sculpture Park near the Performing Arts Complex

Calling all adventure lovers! This year's Cotopaxi Questival is set for May 12 & 13 at Sculpture Park in downtown Denver. 

This 24-hour adventure race will take you all around Denver and push you to the limits of your comfort zone. Build a team of up to 6 of your closest friends and set off on an adventure of a lifetime. 

You will check in via their special app as you complete a predetermined list of challenges. It's a great way to get to know the city and bond even more with close friends. 

Five Points Jazz Festival

Location: Five Points District near 27th and Welton Streets

The Five Points Jazz Festival brings together some of the best jazz musicians from all over the world for one day. Local musicians also show up and bring their best. 

This is one of the festivals in Denver in May that has more than 7 stages and 20+ different musicians or bands playing all day long. If you are looking for diverse styles of jazz, this is the festival for you. 

This event is also free, so make sure to stop by and enjoy the music. 

In addition to wonderful jazz music, you can also enjoy street chalk artists, outdoor dancing, loads of vendors, food, drinks, along with a jubilee of jazz music to keep you going all Saturday long. 

Indian Market & Powwow

The Indian Market & Powwow has been an important civic event for almost 20 years. This event is a celebration of Native American culture, different styles of art, and performances. It includes over 50 different tribes and groups of drummers that perform throughout this 2-day festival. It starts at 10 am and ends at 5 pm both days.

The Indian Market and Powwow is also famous for the amazing native peoples’ jewelry, pottery, carvings, and other art work that is treasured around the world. There are also many educational and interactive exhibits and delicious drinks and foods.

Primal Colorado Bike Expo

Location: Lot J and Gate 1 (West Plaza) at Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Ready. Set. Go! The Primal Colorado Bike Expo is off and riding towards the ultimate in all things cycling related in the state of Colorado. It highlights the newest innovations in cycling and all the best from all over the world. This two day event includes aerial stunts and a kids’ section with a demonstration area.

If you are on bike overload from all the goings on during the expo, take a break and listen to some live music, eat some yummy food and check out the beer garden.

You can also donate your old bikes which will go to Bicycles for Humanity. They will fix them up and send them to Africa to help people in need of transportation. 

Denver Day of Rock

Location: 16th Street Mall Downtown

Denver Day of Rock is a free event during Memorial Day Weekend. It includes live music on 5 different stages all along the 16th Street Mall. This popular annual event brings in around 100,000 people every year. 

Along with live music, you will also find dozens of vendors, food trucks, and those selling alcohol throughout the festival. 

This is one of the festivals in Denver in May that is free, although they accept donations for Amp the Cause, which helps kids in need of health and education throughout the state of Colorado.

Denver Arts Festival

Location: Conservatory Green at Northfield in Stapleton at 8304 E. 49th Place

Find a unique souvenir of your trip to the Mile High City at the Denver Arts Festival located at the Conservatory Green in Stapleton. 

You'll find mixed media, ceramics, and more artwork created by more than 100 Colorado artists as well as a few juried national artists. 

More than 50,000 art lovers are estimated to attend this annual Denver tradition.

Walk for Israel | Celebrate Family Festival

Location: Denver South High School, 1700 E. Louisiana Street at the West Lawn

This event is a collaboration between JEWISHColorado and JCC Denver which includes games and entertainment for all. Both of these organizations work to educate people about Jewish culture, strengthen community, and bring people together through classic Jewish beliefs. 

This walk begins at 9:30 am and ends at 1 pm. After the walk, make sure to check out the other activities that day including balloon artists, face painters, climbing walls, and games.
