Lovers of Broadway will be glad they picked the month of May to come to the Mile High City. During this month, you will find two incredible Broadway productions shows. These shows include WICKED and SWEAT.
WICKED is an alternate view into the wonderful world of OZ. Instead of there being a simplistic view of the good and the bad, this musical shows that there is a lot of grey in-between the green and blonde. Glinda, the Good Witch, has always been shown to be perfect, while Elphaba the Bad Witch, has always been shown to be the problem child.
During this stage spectacular, you will see the truth behind the story and how this came to be well before Dorothy showed up in Oz. Glinda is actually a person driven by self-interest and popularity, while Elphaba is moral, strong, and stays honest about who she is and supports her friends through thick and thin. This show is famous for songs such as "For good", "Popular", and the most famous song of the show, "Defying Gravity." WICKED runs from May 8th until June 9th. It is 2-hours and 45-minutes with one intermission.
SWEAT is based on the fictional town of Reading, Pennsylvania and the people that work in a factory there. It chronicles the ups, downs, and everything that happens when the boss decides to cut costs and lay off some of them. The workers decide to picket and fight back against this unfair treatment.
This show examines how easy it is to be suddenly forgotten and ignored as people because of the choices of people who employ the common folk. With the exploration of racism, sexism, and more, this show is incredibly important during this difficult time in the country's political climate. SWEAT was voted the #1 Play of 2017 by TIME magazine. SWEAT runs from April 26th until May 26th.
